GUISBOROUGH UNDER 15’S V STOCKTON UNDER 15/16’S
Score: 47 V 0
Guisborough travelled to Stockton to
play a mixed 15/16 side that had not been beaten this season. It took a
little under two minutes for Guisborough to open the scoring with a
nicely worked try scored by centre Nial McReady. Tom Lynn scored next
after sidestepping half of the Stockton team and James Clarke kicked his
second conversion of the game making the score 14-0 after 8 minutes.
Scrum half Tom Crown scored for the second week running after a great
pre planned 8 – 9 move, with Owen Edwards carrying the ball from the
back of the scrum into the tackle and shipping it off to Tom leaving him
with two men to beat to score. James Clarke converted to make it 21-0
(15 mins gone). The onslaught gathered pace with captain Owen Edwards
scoring and prop Tim Pigg finding himself on the wing to carry over from
another good Guisborough move. James Clarke astounded everybody by
actually missing the two points from the touchline such is the
reliability of his kicking.
Half time Guisborough 33 – 0
Stockton
The second half was barely under way
when recent signing Joe (Buzzy) Bosomworth playing at fullback went on
one of his typically mazy runs and scored in the corner leaving another
awkward kick for James (38 – 0). Tim Pigg crashed over between the posts
for his second try of the game leaving the conversion a formality (45 –
0). Mike Walsh was next to get in on the act, a strong winger (converted
from a forward) was not going to be stopped when he received the ball
and duly went over in the corner (50 – 0). Arguably the best try of the
game was controversially ruled out as No8 Owen Edwards picked the ball
up from the back of the Guisborough scrum and ploughed his way through a
host of Stockton defenders, only to be denied as he was also too quick
for the ref who was left unsighted as he touched the ball down. From the
resulting scrum Guisbrough changed tactics and passed the ball out to
centre Tom Lynn to run in his second try of the game. The conversion by
James Clarke was the last kick of the game (57 – 0). Although a very one
sided game, a lot of teams would have lost heart and maybe a bit of
discipline, Stockton however kept going to the end and were very
graceful in defeat, (a credit to their club).
