GUISBOROUGH 1ST 1V V NOVOCASTRIANS
GUISBOROUGH 5 NOVO’S 14
25TH NOVEMBER 2006.
The match began with a one minute silence in memory of a referee who recently died whilst on holiday in Australia.
Both teams were feisty, and the ball was held around Novo’s 22 for some time.
The first attempt at points was awarded to Guisborough where they missed a penalty given for a rucking offence
A missed pass from Guisborough allowed an interception from Novo’s who took the ball up to the Guisborough 22. Guisborough’s Paul Towers managed to touch the ball down to give them some breathing space.
From a scrum at five metres, the Novo’s forwards worked their way over the line where Dave Tate touched down and Si Gretham converted
Play continued to be fairly even in the blustery weather.
HALF TIME SCORE: Novo 7 Guisborough 0
The second half showed a Guisborough reacting to their half time pep talk.
Some good interlinking took them to the five metre line where the forwards worked their way back and forth for a while but could not break through the Novo’s defences.
Pressure continued. Novo’s took the ball twice, but did not go beyond the half way line.
Some good straight running and crisp simple passing allowed Muir, Towers, Hooker, and finally Fernie who touched down for Guisborough.
Play continued in Guisboroughs favour, but a fluky try and conversion were awarded to Novo’s Si Gretham.
The game continued in the Novo’s half with Guisborough applying pressure, but a kick up field gave them another opportunity, which Dave Tate took, advantage of and touched down with Si Gretham converting.
The game finished as a Guisborough undeserved defeat.
