Match report for Guisborough RFU 1st 1V 25th February 2006

Guisborough V Bramley Phoenix.  ¼ final of the ‘Silver Trophy.

Guisborough won 20-8 in their away fixture against Bramley Phoenix in the quarterfinal of the Silver Trophy

After 15 minutes of Guisborough pressure on the phoenix line, a line out at the 5 metre line meant that Guisborough retained possession, and the pushover try was rightly claimed by number 3 John Mann.  The conversion fell short.

Guisborough took the ball forward again after regaining possession from the restart.  A string of passes from the backs, and a typical Motson side step, allowed the forwards to take control. This time it was number7 veteran Paul Towers, who claimed the try.  The conversion was successful by the full back Paul McClusky.

Bramley looked as if they were going to score when the centre blocked the kick, but it sprung from his arms on the try line and went dead.

Bramley had another opportunity when a string of passes went to the wing.  Paul Mclusky made the try saving tackle at the line.

The ball was worked up to the midfield, but Bramley regained possession.

A pass to the right wing sent number 11 Vanderveervelt on a 25-metre dart down the wing and across to touch down under the posts.

This time it was Guisborough who applied the pressure, and winger Kev Hamlin darted towards the line only to be stopped by a high tackle, which led to a sin bin for Bramleys number 7.

Guisborough were awarded a penalty in front of the posts given for an offside offence and it was successfully kicked by Full back Paul McCluskey.

Half Time Score Bramley Phoenix 5 Guisborough 15

The fiery start to the second half led to the number 6 being sin binned leaving Phoenix playing with 14 men again.

Bramleys Hooker and captain, Darren Robbins, successfully kicked a 30-metre in front of the posts given for a rucking offence.

It looked like another Guisborough try when Towers passed to leggott, and the ball was taken to the line and knocked on from the ruck that had formed.

A number 8 pick up by Matt Flint from the back of the ensuing scrum meant another 5 points for Guisborough.

Play continued to be hard fought with the final score being:
