GRUFC 1ST 1V versus WINLATON VULCANS
Away match, league fixture D&N2.
Guisborough kicked off today at Winlaton, in blazing sunshine.
The kick failed to go 10, giving a scrum back to Winlaton. Guisborough regained possession at the 22 when Mick Pattison, Fullback, kicked the ball into touch. A series of forward play, took the ball back to the 22, where it stayed for some time. From a scrum midfield, Karl Scott, shipped the ball out to Des Horton on the wing, who darted for the line to touch down for Guisborough, with Mark George converting. A penalty was awarded to Guisborough for an offside offence at the halfway mark, and the ref gave a further 10 metres for backchat, but Mark Georges kick, kissed the outside left post. Winlaton worked the ball slowly to the guisborough line where they were awarded a penalty given for an offside offence. Number 15 K. Allison made a successful kick.

The second half started feistily, and Winlaton kicked off short of 10, but play continued, and they were awarded a penalty try for tackling the man without the ball? Allison kicked a successful conversion. The second half was thwarted with Winlaton injuries, but Guisborough battled back uphill after being camped defensively for 10 minutes, and despite constant disruption to play. A scrum at 15 metres led to a Guisborough penalty, and some unselfish play allowed Matthew Flint to touch down: the conversion went under the posts. Winlaton camped on the Guisborough line for a good session of play, but the defences could not hold. The Priorymen allowed the Vulcan’s pack to claim a try, with Allison converting. Guisborough continued to apply pressure, but were unable to convert it into points.
